Adult Cardiology Department

 

 

 

 



Adult Cardiology Ward is a 23 bedded capacity dedicated to several cardiac conditions. Patients admitted to ward through different routes:
 

*      Admitted as an emergency via Accident and Emergency (A&E)

*      Admitted through Cardiac Outpatient 

*      From other wards in the hospital including CCU, and General Medical Ward. 

The majority of patients in the Cardiology Ward have some degree of coronary artery disease, and most undergo coronary angiography and intervention at some point during their stay. Patients may also undergo other cardiac investigations including Exercise Tolerance Tests (ETT), Transthoracic/Transesophageal Echocardiogram, Cardiac nuclear studies and Cardiac MRI.

 

Some patients require interventions including:

• Insertion of a permanent pacemaker (PPM)

• Implantation of Internal cardiac defibrillator (ICD)

• Electrophysiology studies (EPS

Furthermore, a cardiologist is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, emergency and on-call coverage to all inpatient units.
