Prince Sultan Cardiac Center Qassim, in cooperation with Maternity and Children Hospital, successfully conducted a caesarian delivery for a 23-year old patient suffering from a congenital heart defect consisting of Tetralogy of Fallot, weak heart muscles, severe pulmonary valve regurgitation, and venous thrombosis in the right leg.  The young mother was given full medical attention and careful follow-up of her condition prior to her operation.

After 35 weeks of conception, obstetricians from Maternity and Children Hospital in Buraidah, decided to conduct the caesarian operation to ensure the safety of both mother and baby. The patient was given utmost heart care and right after her condition was stabilized, she gave birth through caesarian section and the operation was performed at PSCCQ, under the cautious and watchful supervision of a medical team comprised of a consultant obstetrician, anesthesia consultant for the heart, a cardiac care consultant, a pediatrician, and an adult heart consultant.

Senior Cardiac Consultant, Dr. Assem Abdullah Ghanawah, confirmed that after the successful operation, the child was immediately transferred to the maternity hospital, leaving the mother at PSCCQ for further medical attention. As soon as the mother’s condition was stable enough, she was then transported to the Maternity and Children Hospital. Three days after, the mother and her child discharged from the hospital. The medical team is hopeful for a speedy recovery not only for the mother and her child but to all the patients, as well.
