The Department of Education, Training, and Research of Prince Sultan Cardiac Center Qassim holds Regional Cardiology Meeting regarding Aortic Stenosis last Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Golden Tulip Hotel. The course has been approved for (6) CME hours by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. With more than 70 medical practitioner in attendance from various hospital in Qassim and Hail.

The activities commenced with a lecture on Anatomy and Types of Aortic Valve which was clearly elaborated by Dr. Safa Mohammad, PSCCQ Senior Specialist Cardiologist. It was known that the aortic valve refers to a valve in the human heart located between the left ventricle and aorta.

Dr. Osama Smettei, a PSCCQ Consultant Cardiologist, discussed the broad case about Epidemiology, Causes, Pathophysiology, and Course of Aortic Stenosis. These diseases have been epidemically increasing especially to the aging population and are triggered by some lifestyle habits such as cigarette smoking. Another major cause of Aortic Stenosis is the calcification of a congenital bicuspid aortic valve.

PSCCQ Consultant Cardiologist, Dr. Rahim Gul explained the Symptoms, Signs, and Clinical Assessment of Aortic Stenosis. Everyone was informed that this disease can be identified through its symptoms including abnormal heart sound, chest pain, feeling faint or dizziness, fatigue, and heart palpitations.

Another important lecture on Echo Diagnostic Evaluation of Aortic Stenosis was discussed by Dr. Mohammad Saied, PSCCQ Consultant Cardiologist. It is good to have learned that Echocardiography is the main method to assess AS severity. Additionally, he also gave a very sufficient knowledge on Management of Severe Symptomatic Aortic Stenosis in View of Recent Guidelines wherein he discussed the latest and the best possible guidelines in managing this kind of illness.

More so, Dr. Rahim Gul added the lectures he had previously discussed by lecturing on Management of Severe Asymptomatic Aortic Stenosis. This case should be given enough attention because it is a bit complicated than that of aortic stenosis. Patients with Asymptomatic Severe Aortic Stenosis should, therefore, require close monitoring.

As the program continues, Dr. Tawfeeq Al Harbi, PSCCQ Consultant Cardiologist specified the Management and Evaluation of Low-Flow-Low Gradient with Low LV Function. This needs critical evaluation with a case to case basis. On the other hand, he also discussed the Management of Low-Flow-Low Gradient with Normal LV Function and it was obviously clear how different a low LV function is compared to the normal one.

Dr. Rahim Gul represented detailed information of the Revolution of Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). This seems to play a key and a reliable role in the treatment of intermediate and maybe low-risk patients with severe aortic stenosis. This procedure is also a real revolution in the field of international cardiology for the treatment of elderly or high-risk surgical patients with severe symptomatic aortic valve stenosis.

Meanwhile, DR. Mehboob Ali Dar, PSCCQ Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist shared the TAVI experience in PSCCQ. With the growing quality medical services, the center itself has been engaged in a variety of surgeries including TAVI which were all conducted successfully. This simply proves that PSCCQ is flourishing their performances and likewise they are truly living up to the true spirit of their mission.
