PSCCQ ORGANIZES REGIONAL CARDIOLOGY MEETING

Prince Sultan Cardiac Center Qassim organized the Regional Cardiology Meeting held last Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Golden Tulip Hotel. The said activity which was attended by a total of sixty-five medical staff from various medical institutions in the Qassim region was intended to give emphasis in the "Updates on Cardiovascular Source of Embolization". Furthermore, this particular meeting is known to be held periodically under the supervision of PSCCQ's Department of Education, Training, and Research. This meeting is accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties for 5 CME hours

Dr. Mohammed Saied, Head of Department of Education, Training, and Research gave a very warm welcome address as he acknowledged the presence of everybody and likewise gave an introduction on what to expect at the said gathering. He also gave an outline of the meeting. He discussed the meeting's framework, importance, and practical application. He said that there will be a comprehensive discussion on the latest scientific developments in the field of cardiology.

Dr. Shafaat Fazili, the Consultant Neurologist of King Fahad Specialist Hospital, discussed the update on CVA and Management. He lectured on the latest developments in strokes due to cerebral insufficiency. Moreover, he mentioned the role of solvent thrombosis in protecting the patient against the negative effects of stroke or Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) and also talked about the advances in stroke treatment and prevention. In addition, Dr. Fazili emphasized that the Neurology Department, in cooperation with the other specialties in the hospital are seeking to work out on a program to introduce this method as a routine treatment that will meet its medical specifications.

As the activity continued, Dr. Murtada Hussein, PSCCQ Acting Consultant Cardiologist elaborated the Risks and Prevention of Cardio-Embolic Stroke. He cited the causes of strokes as well as the preventive ways to inhibit one's self from having a stroke. Cardio-Embolic Stroke is largely preventable but it needs efforts from the patient himself and his family.

Dr. Mohammed Saied discussed on the Guidelines for the Use of Echocardiography and Other Imaging Modalities in CVA. Similarly, he specified certain guidelines that should be followed in conducting echocardiography. He also shared an example of several clinical cases that have been diagnosed and treated.

PSCCQ Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist, Dr. Mehboob Ali Dar, gave a very thorough discussion about Atrial Fibrillation: New Era in the Management and Approach to Reduce Ischemic Stroke. He extremely stressed out the approaches on how to readily manage the reduction of Ischemic Stroke.

Dr. Yassin Hegazy, Medical Science Liaison of Pfizer Company had his share of discussion on the Role of NOAC's in Stroke Prevention of NVAP patients.

The Course Organizer, Dr. Mohammed Saied, Head of Department of Education, Training, and Research were so overwhelmed with the successful outcome of the event. He was glad that the main goal of holding this meeting was achieved beyond their expectations. They didn't only opened the communication doors between doctors, specialists, technicians, and other Cardiology-related health workers but also helped in paving the way for them to keep pace with the scientific developments in the field of cardiology. This meeting which involves lectures, discussion and interactions became a venue to broaden, enhance, and expand the knowledge and capabilities of the guests with regards to their specialized fields.
