The surgical team of Prince Sultan Cardiac Center Qassim has successfully performed a complex heart surgery in a young adult patient who was suffering from acute dissection in his ascending aortic artery. His general condition was deteriorating as a result of acute aortic valve regurge and impending rupture of dissected part. Because of the seriousness of the case the patient was brought directly from emergency room to cardiac surgery operating room to undergo the necessary urgent procedure.

The successful surgery took about eight hours, after which the patient was transferred to the intensive care unit for full recovery. The patient has been discharged from the hospital in a very stable condition.

For his part Dr. Yousry El Moazamy, Chief of Adult Cardiac Surgery Department says that this type of operation is considered as a challenging procedure which is rare and risky that required a highly specialized center and surgical team which is available now in PSCCQ.
