PSCCQ successfully concluded the Basic Level ECG Interpretation Course and Workshop for Nurses

The Department of Education, Training, and Research of Prince Sultan Cardiac Center Al Qassim has successfully concluded the Basic Level ECG Interpretation Course & Workshop for nurses held last 15-16 January 2019 at PSCCQ conference Room.  This activity was attended by 30 nurses from the center and from other hospitals in Qassim Region. 

The first speaker to discuss her topic is Ms.  Ria Baylon Santiago, PSCCQ’s Nurse Specialist, Clinical Instructor of the Coronary Care Unit presented a lecture on Cardiac Conduction System in Relation to Circulation. She expands her discussion by giving a thorough presentation of Determining Heart Rate and ECG Interval. And she continuously extended on the varied topics including Normal Sinus Rhythm, Sinus Bradycardia, Sinus Tachycardia, Sinus Arrhythmias, Sinus Pause, and Sinus Arrest. Eventually, the lecturer had clearly unveiled the important details and facts of these various cases she had discussed.

Afterwards, Nurse Specialist and Coordinator of Nursing Case Management at PSCCQ's Department of Nursing Services, Ms. Julie Somera comprehensively discussed the 1st Degree AV Block, 2nd Degree AV Block, and Third Degree AV Block. She vividly tackled the differences among these 3 commonly described types of Atrioventricular (AV) Block.

Ms. Julie Somera took the floor once again and gave a lecture about Atrial Tachycardia, Atrial Flutter, Atrial Fibrillation, and Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia. She shared the clinical approaches to each of these cases as well as their contrasts.

A returning speaker, Ms. Ria Baylon Santiago, also shared her learned knowledge and factual insights on Junctional Escape Beats/Junctional Escape Rhythm and Accelerated Junctional Rhythm/Junctional Tachycardia. 

Summing up the entire day's activity, Ms. Santiago and Ms. Somera prepared some games for all   to release the stress. This is their way of weighing   the participant’s attention if they have truly grasped the lessons conveyed. Everyone had a great time because it was learning in a fun yet educative way.

As the course continued on the second day, Ms. Jisa Joseph, and Coordinator of Saudi Cardiac Nursing and Saudi Critical Care, Nursing Specialization Program of the Department of Nursing Service at PSCCQ gave a vivid description and explanation of Ventricular Tachycardia, Ventricular Fibrillation, and Asystole.

Ms. Stephy Manual, Nurse Specialist and Clinical Instructor of Cardiology Ward and Cardiac Holding Unit of the Department of Nursing Services in PSCCQ, elaborated the Premature Beats. She explained the causes, the differences, as well as their corresponding treatments.

Henceforth, Ms. Santiago gave a thorough explanation on how to perform 12-Lead ECG. She also facilitated the workshop on Nursing Actions in Cardiac Arrhytmias accordingly and made sure that each participant had learned from it.

It was proven that all of the speakers/lecturers are undoubtedly outstanding with their efforts and unselfish sharing of ideas and knowledge. The two-day course was indeed successful.
