PSCCQ successfully concluded 4th Nursing Leadership and Management Course

The Department of Education, Training, and Research of PSCCQ has organized a two - day activity entitled “The Nursing Leadership and Management Course” on 6-7 November 2018 at the PSCCQ Cardiology Conference Room. This was accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties for 16 CME hours.

A total of Thirty (30) participants were in attendance, consisting of Nurse Coordinator, Nurse Educators, and Nurse Supervisor, Head Nurses, Clinical Instructors, and Cardiovascular student.

To start with, Ms. Kahkashan Sana, PSCCQ Nursing Director discussed the ways on how to be Effective Leaders/Managers and likewise elaborated Leadership Styles in a given Workshop. She gave several tips and qualities to become the best that one can be as an efficient leader/manager.

After which, a discussion about Change Management was given by Dr. Abdulrahman Al Mesned, PSCCQ Consultant Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist Center Director talked about Change Management In the medical field, the change of management is sometimes a strategy in embracing changes designed for the benefit of the patients and the organization.  

On the other hand, Ms. Emtithal Al Maktoum, Coordinator of Education and Training Department from King Fahd Specialist Hospital shared her knowledge about Effective Time Management. She encouraged the participants to better start managing their time considering that time is valuable and time is limited for medical professionals. One should have the motivation to use their time management. Learning to manage one's time will surely have good multiplicative effects.

The lectures continued with Ms. Emtithal Al Maktoum talking about Staffing Management: Analysis and Application. The staff management should possess several keys of competencies so that they will be able to hire the deserving applicants. They are in control of who should be the staff of the center's respective departments. Staffing and analyzing applications isn't an easy task. It needs patience and competence to deal with it.

Ms. Laila Abed Eddin, PSCCQ Deputy Nursing Director hold a discussion on Preceptorship Program and Orientation Program. In a clinical preceptorship program, the theoretical knowledge is exemplified into practical applications. This is indeed helpful for everyone who wanted to practically apply what they have learned. Conducting orientation programs will provide basic knowledge for the new ones to familiarize and adapt. 

 
On the second day, Ms. Laila Abed Eddin initiated the program with her discussion on Project for Improvement - Performance Management and Action Plan Workshop. This lecture was a great way to tell the participating guests that they should always reserve a room for improvement to raise their level of performances.

When the discussion resumed, Ms. Kahkashan Sana facilitated the Team Building. Team building is commonly referred to as a collective term for various types of activities used to enhance social relations and define roles within teams, often involving collaborative tasks. This is an activity that involves teamwork. Thus after completing a series of activities together, employees better understand each other's strength, weakness, and interests. This understanding will help them work even better together for the progress of their working place. Team building is a must and should be a part of work.

Succeeding, Ms. Marianne Laylo, Head of Nursing Education Department at King Fahd Specialist Hospital gave a lecture on Critical Thinking and Decision Making. Critical thinking is the ability to think clearly and rationally about what to do and what to believe. This is an essential skill for medical practitioners. It is important to quickly and confidently assess situations and make the best care decision. Your critical thinking skills will direct your decision making.

Another important lecture not to miss was about Organizational, Interpersonal and Group Communication and this was given by Ms. Ma. Rosario Labiste, Coordinator of Department of Education, Training, and Research at PSCCQ. Communication in a healthcare setting is one of the most important tools in providing great patient care and improving patient satisfaction. When a medical professional knows how to effectively communicate and handle his/her patient, complaints will be reduced and a patient's experience will be enhanced. Likewise, you will be increasing your self-confidence and will reward yourself for a satisfying job.

The second day ended with an evaluation. This was a fruitful day for everyone because of the sufficient and sustainable knowledge given which will serve as a guiding tool to improve one's work.
