The Department of Education, Training, and Research of PSCCQ holds the 6thBasic Level ECG Interpretation course for Physician held July 31-August 1, 2018 at PSCCQ Conference Room.  A total of 25 medical students and physician participated from Qassim University and Prince Sultan Cardiac Center.

This 2- day course will cover a total of 9 essential topics.  The first-day course began with a lecture on Basic Anatomy and Physiology on Conduction System by Dr. Adil Bashir Senior Specialist Adult Cardiologist. He provided a basic understanding of the conduction system so everyone will have a foundation and reserved knowledge for future purposes. It was learned that the conduction system provides the heart the automatic rhythmic beat.

Dr. Rahim Gul, a Consultant Adult Cardiologist, shared important details and information on how to report ECG. He discussed the guidelines on how to read and interpret electrocardiogram in a step by step manner so everyone around can easily grasp the right manner of reporting ECG.

A discussion with regards to Supraventricular Arrhythmia was extensively discussed by Dr. Rami Mahmoud Abazid, Consultant Adult Cardiologist. He pointed out that this occurs in the area above the ventricles, usually in the upper chambers of the heart, called the atria.

As the activity resumed, Dr. Safa Mohammed, Senior Specialist Adult Cardiologist, lectured on Conduction Abnormalities. She has shared that conduction abnormalities can be detected on an ECG and such abnormalities may occur at any part of the conduction system.

Important detailed information on Myocardial Ischemia and Infarction was greatly shared and discussed by Dr. Adil Bashir Senior Specialist Adult Cardiologist. The guests understood that myocardial ischemia and myocardial infarctions are both conditions defining and failing condition of the heart muscle.

On the second day of the course, Dr. Rahim Gul delivered essential facts on ECG for Diagnosis of Chamber Enlargement. Some important details were stressed out like ECG diagnosis or recognition of chamber enlargement incorporates a number of sound physical principles that may lead to meaningful correlations with the tissue mass, chamber diameter, and intracardiac blood volume.

Dr. Asim Ganawa, Senior Specialist Adult Cardiologist followed as he discussed Ventricular Arrhythmias which he emphasized that this refers to abnormal heart rhythms that originate in the bottom chambers of the heart called the ventricles.

A broad explanation on ECG Electrolyte Disturbance was given by Dr. Murtada Hussein, Consultant Adult Cardiologist. He wisely gives all the necessary facts regarding this matter for everyone to truly understand how to determine and how to cope up with electrolyte disturbance.

To finally complete the series of discussions, again Dr. Murtada Hussein, willfully shared his learned knowledge, insights, and examples on ECG in Special Clinic Scenarios. He further accented on several cases of ECG in this particular outline.

This course comes within the framework of educational activities designed by the Education, Training and Research Department of PSCCQ. This activity has been accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties for 9 CME Hours.
