PSCCQ successfully holds the 3rd Communication Skills for Health Professionals

PSCCQ Department of Education, Training, and Research hold the 3rd Communication Skills for Health Professionals at the King Fahad Specialist Hospital Auditorium last May 9, 2018. The course has been approved for (6) CME hours by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

The activity proper started with an introduction and a welcome address from Mr. Ibrahim Al Bander, Manager of Cardiac Outpatient Department at PSCCQ.

Dr. Abdulrahman  Al Mesned, PSCCQ Center Director had a deliberate and thorough explanation on Effective Communication Skills. There are certain things to be considered to effectively enhance your communication skills. He pointed out that effective communication will deepen your connections to others and help improve teamwork, decision-making, and problem-solving. It is indeed important to have and to learn effective communication skills because it enables us to communicate even negative or difficult messages without creating conflict or destroying trust.

Additionally, PSCCQ Medical Director and Consultant Adult Cardiologist, Dr. Tariq Soomro discussed the Language Barriers to Communication: Communicating in Different Languages. It is definitely a fact that difference in language is the most obvious barrier to communication as two people speaking two different languages cannot communicate with each other. He also explained some relevant facts to consider in overcoming language barriers.

Moreover, Dr. Majeda Ali Fhead Al Farajat, PSCCQ's Director of Quality Management and Patient Safety discussed the ways and the means on how to deal with difficult families. She vividly explained the things that should be done in dealing with these families

Dr. Tariq Ishaq Soomro returned as the lecturer and talked about what is the proper way of Breaking Bad News. It is one of the most difficult tasks a physician faces. It must be considerably done in a sensitive and individual way knowing that you should also be concerned about the emotions of the patient and their families. 

Lastly, Dr. Alamin Subahi, Consultant Neonatologist at Maternity and Children's Hospital in Buraidah had his share of lecturing on How to deal with patients with complaints. 

The event ended with closing remarks from the PSCCQ Center Director, Dr. Abdulrahman Abdulazis Al-Mesned. He was thankful for the successful and fruitful outcome of the course. He extended his gratitude to the organizer for the job well done and to each one who spared their time in attending the program. Indeed, he is also looking forward to another activity in the coming years. The activity successfully ended up with the distribution of certificate of appreciation to the distinguished speakers.
